The downtown is in the midst of a retail and lively arts renaissance. Amighty state-funded theatrical complex is bringing a taste of Broadway to the city. The Main Street entertainment district is a supercharged new concentration of eateries and nightclubs. Down on the riverfront, construction is under way on a National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, new pro baseball and football stadiums and a new central riverfront park.
Look, too, across the river, where hotels are sprouting up in reaction to the new Northern Kentucky Convention Center and the brand-new Oceanic Adventures Newport Aquarium. Plans on the "south side of Cincinnati," as Northern Kentucky labels itself in this era of regional cooperation, also call for a new NASCAR racing track. To the west, meanwhile, riverboat casinos are changing the face of rustic Indiana river towns. And on the Ohio River itself, the Tall Stacks museum of 19 riverboats, the biggest collection of vintage steamboats in the world, attracts 1 million visitors a year.
Of course, with growth and renewal comes change--and confusion. That's where this online selection of The Insiders' Guide to Cincinnati -- and the full print 4th edition available here from the buy-the-book graphic and links -- comes in. We take your around the neighborhoods, across three state lines and hundreds of towns and suburbs.
If you've just moved to Cincinnati--or even if you're visiting--be careful. You may just get stuck here for the rest of your life because you'll never want to leave. What follows is an attempt to give newcomers a guide to this unique place. Kick up your feet, lean back and give us a read. The Insiders' Guide to Cincinnati is written by two writers who moved here years ago from out of town, fell in love with the city and stayed.
